About Brendan Donovan
Brendan Donovan has been creating art for as long as he could remember. He would carry around sketch books and scraps of paper and would try to draw what he saw. Once in school, everyone was scheduled to take art classes. Having gone to Shaler Area, the art department was a place of creative freedom and escape. The teachers throughout the district not only taught the technical aspects of art, they also created an environment in which students could create their own art without their vision being changed. Brendan feels that this type of space helped him build his own style and gave him a reason why he wanted and needed to make art.
Later on near the end of high school, Brendan began showing his work in a Lawrenceville cafe called Maura Mori. From this cafe, he began showing In other cafes and restaurants around Pittsburgh. From there, he was asked to paint three murals in The Wheel Mill, an indoor bike park in Pittsburgh. During this time, Brendan began studying Clinical Psychology at Point Park University for his undergraduate degree. He feels that its emphasis on the philosophical underpinnings of psychology really worked to further his style and inspiration in regard to the artistic eye.
Throughout his college career, Brendan began showing in different galleries around Pittsburgh through being involved with the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. He also began showing at different events put on by Redfishbowl. Through these two organizations, Brendan was able to meet new artists to collaborate with, find new clients who enjoyed his work and his favorite part, connect with more passionate people who love art. Brendan is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, working at Western Psychiatric Hospital and, of course, painting almost every day.
